2017 HCC Newspring Business Plan Competition Breaks Three Records!
The 2017 HCC Newspring Business Plan Competition began with a record number of applications submitted by the deadline on January 20 and moved immediately to break another record by accepting 33 teams into the competition. All teams will receive training and mentoring from a record 66 mentors who will offer their time and experience to more teams than ever before, as they move through this working competition! Additionally, given the expansion of the Center for Entrepreneurship and this year’s record number of applications, the remaining applicants have also been given a series of opportunities to advance and grow in 2017 and enter the pipeline group preparing for application to the 2018 BPC.
92 Applications – More applications than ever before for the 2017 HCC Newspring Business Plan Competition! 92 teams applied, vying for the chance to win the free training and one-on-one mentoring offered each year from February through April. The application period kicked off in November and was highlighted in January with a BPC reception hosted by Wallis State Bank. When the application deadline arrived at 11:59 pm on January 18, the first 2017 BPC record had been set!
Remaining 60 Applicants Offered Series of Opportunities at the Center for Entrepreneurship at both the HCC Spring Branch Campus and the HCC Alief Hayes Road Campus – The remaining 60 are being offered a series of opportunities, including one-on-one mentoring appointments that have already begun at the HCC Alief Hayes location, and workshops and seminars that will be held throughout the year. These and additional activities are designed to help advance their plans in 2017 and prepare them to be part of the Pipeline Group preparing to take a run at the 2018 competition.
