Houston Skyline banner cb6488ae-d6c2-4e02-a10f-f81c9b2f3a73Three Texas cities rank among the top 10 cities for minority entrepreneurs, with Houston topping the list, according to a report by Expert Market.

Houston took the top spot because of startup opportunities and affordable living costs, according to the business resource company.

Dallas came in at No. 7 and Austin at No 8.

The report studied the corporate landscape for minorities in more than 40 business hubs, looking at the number of minority-owned enterprises, economic opportunities for minorities, access to financial resources, the startup ecosystem and costs, and the rate of new entrepreneurs.

Houston’s affordable living costs, diversity and business incubators make it the most attractive city for minority entrepreneurs, according to the report.

The study also shows that Houstonians are more likely to work with or buy from a business owned by a minority.

According to the report, 40 percent of new entrepreneurs in 2016 were African-American, Latino, Asian or other nonwhite ethnicity, and that the number of new Latino entrepreneurs more than doubled since 1996 to 20.8 percent from 10 percent.
